The Springfield Motor Car Company incorporates in Springfield, IL with Harry C. Medcraft as President, Rudolph Haas as Vice President, Edward Everett Staley as Secretary, and racer Otis Funderburk as Sales Manager - the new firm was a reorganization of the Med-Bow Automobile Company of Springfield, MA, but actual production was only about ten cars

Racer Bernie Ecclestone is born in St. Peters, Suffolk, England

The first post-World War II English sprint races are held at Filton Aerodrome near Bristol - class winners included Bob Gerard in a E.R.A. and Sir Alec Issigonis in the “Lightweight Special”

Col. Elbert J. Hall, whose Hall-Scott aviation engines powered the super luxury Fageol car of 1917 and in 1930 was a cofounder with Norman DeVaux of the DeVaux-Hall Motors Corporation, manufacturers of the economy DeVaux of 1931-1932, dies in Los Gatos, CA at age 73
