Team Welcomes Back Canadian Fred Roberts for One Hour SPEED GT Feature
Competition is what drives Cindi Lux (Aloha, Ore.), the sole road racing member of the elite Team Mopar. It is the desire to be better than everyone else on the track that pushes the 12-time road racing champion to higher levels each weekend. However, on August 23, Lux must first take on the daunting Mosport International Raceway before she can worry about her human rivals. At 2.459-miles in length, the 10-turn Canadian facility is among the quickest road courses in North America requiring precise driving, courage and blind trust in your car.
For Lux, the combination is why the Bowmanville, Ontario track, north of Toronto, is among her favorites. After an impressive run in her Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge rookie season here last year, Lux is anxious to return to the Mosport Grand Prix for the SPEED GT Series with the No. 2 Team Mopar Dodge Viper Competition Coupe to again prove her mettle.
Lux is suffering very little from the traditional "sophomore slump" that plagues many racers in their second season with a series. She debuted the beautiful liquid metal livery of Team Mopar with a World Challenge-best personal result of ninth-place at the Grand Prix of Long Beach earlier this year. She bettered that result at Miller Motorsports Park with a fifth-place finish from a third-place start. Not to be slowed down, the 1999 American Le Mans Series Women's Global GT Series Inaugural Champion claimed a third top-10 in her most recent start at Road America. In 2007, due to a pre-race decision to switch tires, the native of the Northwest charged from last to 11th at Mosport to make her mark on the series in a wet-dry race that challenged even the most veteran of drivers.
Canadian Fred Roberts (Mississauga, Ont.) will make his second SPEED GT start of the season at Mosport in a Lux Performance Group, LLC-prepared Viper. The veteran of the Viper Racing League made his World Challenge debut with the team at Mid-Ohio earlier this season earning a 14th-place finish in the No. 87.
Mosport, the first purpose-built race facility in Canada, has three turns which will make or break America's supercar during the one hour, Saturday feature event. Turn One comes at the end of the short, uphill front- straight and demands courage and attention as it falls down and away to the right. Getting it correct is crucial to maintaining speed in the complex of corners that follow. The most difficult corner, the Stirling Moss Hairpin - turns 5A - 5C - slows the cars with a right- hander which leads onto the long, fast, and slightly curving back straightaway. The third crucial turn is the final, tight, 90-degree right that leads back onto the front-straight. Getting any one of these three turns wrong can destroy a quick lap and be the difference between a podium finish and a frustrating result.

"All it did last year was rain at this track so I am hoping for a dry event. Mosport is known for its unstable weather so we will be prepared for anything. This track is very technical and fast which suits my driving style. Plus, there are more than a few hardcore Canadian Mopar fans so we just want to make them proud and have something to cheer about. We just need to keep the 'rain gods' happy so the rain won't come into play here this year."
