Car and Driver ranks safest new vehicles under $25,000

The 2008 Saturn Astra and the 2008 Dodge Charger are among the Top 10 Safe New Vehicles priced at less than $25,000, according to the latest rankings conducted by CARandDRIVER.com.

All the vehicles that made the list met a list of criteria that included being equipped with stability control and a minimum of six airbags.The annual listing of safest vehicles was released Monday. Other vehicles on the list included the 2008 Scion xB, 2008 Hyundai Sonata and the 2007 Mini Cooper.

“This list will help guide car buyers to safe vehicles at a very reasonable price, and it clearly shows how safety technology has moved to the mainstream,” said Mike Dushane, executive editor of CARandDRIVER.com, in a statement. “It’s not just for the luxury car buyer anymore.”
