Factory To Bring 1,200 Jobs To Indiana

A major announcement is planned Monday about new jobs coming to Tipton County.Chrysler and Getrag officials will join Gov. Mitch Daniels to announce plans to build a $3 billion transmission factory in Tipton.The plant will sit on 145 acres at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 28 and should be in operation by 2010.

he plant could employ about 1,200 people once fully operational. Getrag purchased the land last month.The company filed plans to build the factory in April.Construction crews have already begun moving dirt on the factory site.Chrysler employs about 6,300 people at three transmission plants and one casting factory in Kokomo.
